With over 30 seasons of experience in D1 Men's Basketball, Eric has cultivated a rich legacy of success across the Pac-12, WCC, and ACC.
Highlights include being named WCC Coach of the Year and leading his Portland team to a top 25 ranking and a school record 60 wins over three years. He helped coach Stanford to the Final Four and four PAC-10 championships and was voted Most Inspirational Player and Captain of the team that made its first NCAA appearance in 50 years. At Georgia Tech his team won the ACC Tournament Championship and garnered both ACC Player of the Year Defensive Play of the Year honors.
Eric is not just a coach; he is a builder of legacies and a developer of champions. His coaching philosophy extends beyond the court, focusing on character development, academic excellence, and creating a winning culture.
Eric received the NABC Guardian of the Game Award for initiating the #AllVoteNoPlay movement and influencing an NCAA rule change around federal election days. He was also named one of 15 national finalists for the Skip Prosser "Man of the Year" award, emphasizing winning with high moral integrity. He takes pride in having a 100% graduation rate over 10 years as a head coach.

In 29 seasons at the helm of Stanford Women's Water Polo, John’s teams have won 10 NCAA titles and qualified for all 24 NCAA Championships. He holds a .872 career coaching record at Stanford and has mentored nine ACWPC Players of the Year and 61 All-Americans. A nine-time ACWPC Coach of the Year and six-time MPSF Coach of the Year, he was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in June 2019.
Over the course of the past nine Summer Olympic Games, 10 of Tanner’s athletes have won 17 Olympic gold medals, 15 in water polo and two in swimming.
Tanner embraces a coach’s potential to develop individuals into teammates, citizens and leaders, impacting long term outcomes through sportd, even among those competing in the results-driven world of top-tier national and global athletics. The Stanford women’s water polo program prioritizes long-term human development, champions the program’s potential as an immersive learning experience and expects every team member to value and enhance the entire Stanford community through voice and action.

Lisa is a bestselling author, strategic foresight designer, speaker, and award winning thought leader who believes we’re all capable of imagining and designing better futures. She is currently a Designer in Residence and Lecturer at the Stanford d.school, where she leads their futures work and teaches popular classes like “Inventing the future” and “View from the future,” that help leaders and learners learn skills to build agency and navigate ambiguity amid increasingly complex futures. She is the co-creator of award-winning civic initiatives like “Vote by Design: Presidential Edition,” The Team’s “All Vote No Play” civic programming for student athletes, and, most recently, “The Futures Happening: Democracy Edition.”
